“Motivation saved my life. I’m not exaggerating. I wouldn’t be alive today without it. I was 23 stone, borderline diabetic, my blood pressure was sky-high, and cholesterol levels off the chart… I was a heart attack or a stroke waiting to happen. Motivation was my last chance.

“I took that chance in November 2011 when I walked into my local Drogheda clinic. In less than a year, I lost 10-and-a-half stone, and now, four years later, I’ve kept it off.
“I found the entire process really easy and enjoyable. Motivation is very ‘man friendly’ and I liked the fact that my programme was tailored to me personally. The level of attention I received from my personal weight loss consultant was amazing. At the start, a friend bet I wouldn’t lose two stone by Christmas. In fact, I lost four.

“In one year, Motivation turned my life around. It gave me the tools I needed to lose the weight that had piled on over 13 years, and showed me how to stay on track for the rest of my life. I’m amazed and proud of what I’ve achieved, and my wife and two sons are proud of me too.

“I wasn’t always obese. In my twenties, I was an elite athlete, but an injury put a stop that. I didn’t run for fun. If I couldn’t compete, I didn’t want to do it at all. Instead I dedicated myself to work. I’d be up at 5am to commute to Dublin and be at my desk by seven. Between my new sedentary lifestyle and poor diet, the weight crept up over the years. I tried dieting and even saw a nutritionist, but nothing worked until I went to Motivation, and then everything fell into place.

“Since becoming half the man I was, I’ve been able to return to competitive running and have completed several marathons here and abroad. Even now I dip into the Motivation programme, especially while training. I don’t binge eat and to this day, I never feel hungry.

“The first year after losing the weight, I was stopped so often at passport control, I considered getting a new one, but decided to wait. I travel so much, the airport guys know me at this stage. Besides, it’s a badge of honour. It reminds me of where I was. I’d hate to think of where I’d be now if it weren’t for Motivation. It taught me that you have only one chance at life, and it’s up to each of us to look after it.”

“This weight loss programme has made me feel energised,” he says. “I feel I could achieve anything!”
