We’ve all heard of the term ‘metabolism’, but what does it really mean? It’s basically the term used to describe all the chemical reactions that go on in your body. These chemical reactions keep your body alive and functioning throughout the body’s major organs – the brain, liver, kidneys and heart. They take place even while you sleep or stand still.

The Metabolism Report

Metabolism can vary a lot between people, and researchers don’t understand exactly why.

Differences in metabolism speed are evident in how easy or hard it is for people to gain or lose weight. A slow metabolism burns fewer calories, which means more gets stored as fat in the body; that’s why some people have difficulty losing weight by just cutting calories.

A fast metabolism burns calories at a quicker rate, which explains why some people can eat a lot and not gain extra pounds.
