The water and weight connection

We know that we can live for about a month without food but only a week without water. And Hydration is critical for maintaining our internal organs and the many essential mechanisms (such as digestion) that occur every minute of every day inside our amazing bodies. This fact alone demonstrates how crucial water is to our health.

So, what is the connection between Water and Weight?

Researchers are still unsure why drinking more water helps people lose weight, but many studies show some positive correlation between increased water consumption and weight loss.

There are many explanations for this. Some believe water is a natural appetite suppressant. When the stomach senses that it is full, it sends signals to the brain to stop eating.

Water can help take up space in the stomach, leading to a feeling of fullness and reducing hunger. This is why a person may think they are hungry when they are actually thirsty.

At Motivation, we encourage our clients to drink water throughout the day, as drinking a glass of water before reaching for something to eat can help curb unnecessary snacking.

Each day we lose two to three litres through our sweat, urine and bowel movements and even just from breathing, so we need to compensate for that fluid loss and maintain the balance in our bodies to optimise health.

Despite this, the research suggests that about half of us don’t drink enough water. Here is a guide that reminds you of the importance of water for our health.
