October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder of the critical connection between our lifestyle, our health, and sometimes—even our survival. At the recent Frascati Women’s Wellness Event, Aisling Connolly, Director of Motivation Weight Management, shared stories and insights from over 30 years of helping women transform not just their bodies, but their lives.

Her message was clear: weight management is not about dieting. It’s about understanding emotions, habits, and health risks that lie beneath the surface.

A Story of Hope: Laura’s Journey

Aisling opened her talk with an inspiring client story. Laura joined Motivation, lost weight, and—thanks to Motivation’s in-depth body fat analysis discovered a health issue at an early stage. That detection helped save her life.

This is more than weight loss. It’s prevention.
Visceral fat, the hidden fat stored around vital organs is linked to serious diseases, including breast cancer. By identifying visceral fat early, Motivation helps clients reduce their risk and take control of their long-term health.

Laura’s journey didn’t end with improved health. She rebuilt her confidence, overcame low self-esteem, and even opened her own business. Her story highlights how physical health unlocks emotional strength and new opportunities.

Why We Eat: Tackling Emotional Eating at the Root

Most diets fail because they focus only on what we eat, not why we eat. Aisling explained how emotional eating often begins in childhood:

  • A baby cries → comfort is given through food.

  • The brain stores this link: sadness = eating.

  • Later in life, food becomes the automatic response to stress, guilt, or loneliness.

Motivation addresses this cycle through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) tools, personalised audios, and one-to-one coaching. Clients learn to separate physical hunger from emotional hunger, breaking habits that may have been in place for decades.

“It’s not about losing weight, it’s about gaining health, confidence, and freedom.”

Women’s Health Through Every Stage of Life

Weight challenges look different across life stages, and Motivation supports women through each one:

  • Adolescence – Tackling low self-esteem, body image, and social media pressures. Early healthy habits shape lifelong wellbeing.

  • Fertility & Motherhood – Even a 5% weight reduction can boost fertility by up to 69%. For mothers, overcoming “mum guilt” and prioritising self-care makes them stronger for their families.

  • Menopause – On average, women gain 12–15 lbs during menopause, mostly around the tummy. This visceral fat increases risks, including breast cancer. Motivation’s programs show it is possible to lose weight at this stage, while also managing the emotional impact of menopause.

The Bigger Picture: Why Motivation’s Approach Works

Motivation is celebrating 30 years in business this month. Unlike traditional diets, their method combines:

  • Science – body fat and visceral fat analysis.

  • Psychology – CBT-based tools to address emotional eating.

  • Support – one-to-one coaching tailored to each client’s triggers and habits.

As Aisling summed up at the Frascati event:

“Don’t just lose weight. Keep it off—and focus on everything you’re gaining in the process: health, confidence, and a better quality of life.”

Takeaway: Your weight is more than a number on the scales. It’s a window into your health and your emotions—and with the right support, you can transform both.
