Protein will improve your hair.

Hair has a major part to play in relation to our confidence and self-esteem.

Whether your hair is thinning, receding, lifeless or dull, it impacts how we feel about ourselves. When we think of healthy hair we think of luscious tumbling curls or a sleek, shiny mane. Unfortunately, the majority of us do not have hair worthy of a shampoo commercial.

There are, however, ways that we can improve the health and appearance of our hair.

Proteins are one of the most important building blocks of life, they are the fundamental molecule of many of life’s processes. A sufficient amount of protein is required in order for your body to carry out its necessary functions and repair itself. Including protein in your diet will not only help your body to run more efficiently and effectively, it will also improve your outward appearance with effects such as weight loss, healthier skin, nails and hair. Having a sufficient amount of protein in your diet can see hair growth up to half an inch a month. Those side effects don’t sound too bad do they?

When it comes to your hair all that can be said is protein, protein, protein. Protein will improve your hair. Proteins are responsible for making keratin, another type of protein that is essential for hair production and growth. A lack of protein in your diet reduces the amount and quality of keratin your body produces. When an insufficient amount of keratin is produced, that small amount still has to be divided across all areas of the body that need it. Therefore, it is spread so thinly that it cannot fulfil its duties, hair can become dull and brittle and hair loss can even occur.

External uses of protein in the form of shampoos and heat protection sprays will not thicken the hair but it can help in making it healthier. According to the American Dietetic Association protein will improve your hair and the best way to improve the health and appearance of your hair is by ingesting protein. There are many sources of lean protein such as; poultry, eggs, legumes, fish and for those who are vegetarian flaxseed oil is a great alternative source of protein.

Protein also plays significant role in weight reduction.  A person is more likely to see weight loss results by choosing to eat some calories from protein sources eg. meat, fish, pulses etc. while maintaining a moderate carbohydrate reduction. The reason is that protein will assist the body to burn fat more effectively.
